On July 27th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Nicolas Munoz, age 34, of Onarga. According to police reports, Munoz was wanted on two outstanding Iroquois County warrants charging him with obstructing a peace officer and failure to appear for leaving the scene of an accident. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he was released with a notice to appear.

On July 26th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Sean F. Kelley, age 46, of Paxton. According to police reports, Kelley was charged battery after sheriffs deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at Timbered Meadows Campground in rural Milford. Kelley was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he was released with a notice to appear.

Illinois State Police (ISP) conducted a joint enforcement detail on convicted Murderer/Violent Offenders Against Youth (MVOAY) and sex offenders in the Kankakee area.

On July 22, 2026, officers conducted compliance checks for Absconder and Non-Compliant registrants to ensure their addresses were accurate.

Some notable encounters include:

A 54-year-old MVOAY Offender was located in another jurisdiction. He was listed as Absconder/Non-Compliant since September of 2014. He had missed 11 years of registration.

A 37-year-old MVOAY Offender was located in another jurisdiction. He was listed as Absconder/Non-Compliant since June of 2024. ? He had missed two consecutive registrations.

A 52-year-old MVOAY Offender was located in another jurisdiction. He was listed as Absconder/Non-Compliant since July of 2015. He had missed 11 years of registration. ?

A 66-year-old Sexual Predator was located and arrested for one count of Failure to Register. He was listed as Absconder/Non-Compliant since August of 2024.

A 78-year-old Sexual Predator was arrested for five counts of Failure to Register. He was listed as Compliant, but his last form from March of 2026 was determined to have been falsified.

A 55-year-old Sexual Predator was located and registration fixed. He was listed as Absconder/Non-Compliant since August of 2025 and had missed three registrations.

All the located Absconder/Non-Compliant offenders were given directions on how to update their registration with their respective local police departments to be in compliance with State law.

On July 1 8th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Avery L. Durflinger Jr., age 44, of Watseka. According to police reports, deputies were called to a business in Cissna Park in reference to a theft that had just occurred. Deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle in rural Watseka, which was driven by Durflinger. Durflinger was taken into custody and charged with theft under $500. Durflinger was transported to the Iroquois County Jail and was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 18th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Tamie R. Burnside, age 45, of Sheldon. According to police reports, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Burnside for traffic violations. Burnside was taken into custody and charged with driving while license suspended. Burnside was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where she was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 19 th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriff's Police arrested Norrnan J. Whitten, age 42, of Crescent City. According to police reports, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Whitten for traffic violations. Deputies learned that Whitten was wanted on a Kankakee County warrant, charging him with aggravated speeding and driving while license suspended. Whitten was taken into custody and was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 19th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Elizabeth K. King, age 40, of Philo IL. According to police reports, King was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging her with possession of a controlled substance. King was being held at the Champaign County Jail. King was taken into custody and transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where she was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 20th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Myron E. Phillips, age 41, of Danville. According to police reports, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Phillips in rural Ashkum for traffic violations. Phillips was taken into custody and charged with driving while license revoked. Phillips was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 22nd, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Timothy R. Anderson, age 38, of Watseka. According to police reports, Anderson was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging him with theft between $500 and $10,000. Anderson was being held at the Kankakee County Jail. Anderson was taken into custody and transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 23rd, 2026, David L. Baker, age 44, of Watseka, turned himself in to the Iroquois County Jail. Baker was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging him with an aggravated battery to police. Baker was later released on time served.

On July 24 1h, 2026, the Milford Polie Department arrested Dennis E. Baker, age 45, of Milford. According to police reports, Baker was wanted on a Vermillion County warrant, charging him with possession of methamphetamine. Officers took Baker into custody and transported him to the Iroquois County Jail, where he remains, awaiting extradition back to Vermillion.

On July 24th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Tyrone J. Hill, age 37, of Gilman. According to police reports, Hill was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging him with an aggravated DUI. Hill was being held at the Kankakee County Jail. Hill was taken into custody and transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he remains, awaiting his next court date.

Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police arrested a Chicago man identified as Chen XinXin following a traffic stop at 11:20 p.m. July 21. According to sheriff's police reports, the traffic stop uncovered approximately 30 pounds of suspected cannabis.

This arrest led Iroquois County investigators to obtain a search warrant for a property in rural Crescent City. During execution of the search warrant, Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police discovered an elaborate cannabis grow operation containing 1,007 cannabis plants, 18 grams of methamphetamine, and a firearm. Chen XinXin has been charged with the following felonies:

• Possession of Methamphetamine over 15 grams-Class 1 Felony

• Unlawful Production of Cannabis Sativa Plant (over 200 plants)-Class 1 Felony

• Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis (over 5,000 grams)-Class X Felony.

The size of this cannabis grow has the street value potential of more than $1 million per year.

This remains an active investigation. Additional charges and arrests are possible.

On July 14, at 7:20 p.m., the Watseka Police Department was dispatched to the 600 block of E Locust Street for a domestic. According to reports, Brayden P. Griggs, 19 of Watseka, was arrested for domestic battery. Griggs was transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident.

On July 14, at 9:15 p.m., the Watseka Police Department conducted a warrant check in the 600 block of E Locust Street. According to reports, Daniel S. Whaley, 39 of Watseka, was arrested for an outstanding Iroquois County Warrant. Whaley was transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident.

On July 15, at 6:20 a.m., the Watseka Police Department conducted a warrant check in the 800 block of E Walnut Street. According to reports, Evan M. Wade,39 of Watseka, was arrested for an outstanding Iroquois County Warrant. Wade was transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident.

On July 15, at 9:42 a.m., the Watseka Police Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of E Walnut Street for an individual slumped over in a vehicle. According to reports, Makiesha R. Roberts, 37 of Watseka, was arrested for possession of drug equipment and possession of controlled substance. Roberts was transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident.

On July 15, at 6:35 p.m., the Watseka Police Department conducted a warrant check in the 500 block of N 5th Street. According to reports, Jake E. Baumgartner, 34 of Watseka, was arrested for an outstanding Iroquois County Warrant and possession of drug equipment. Baumgartner was transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident

On July 10th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested David Todd Cannon, age 47, of Hoopeston. According to police reports, Cannon was charged with domestic battery. Cannon was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he was released with a notice to appear.

On July 10th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Kyle J. Kupferer, age 38, of Momence. According to police reports, Kupferer was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with theft. Kupferer was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains.

On July 12th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Brandon Bennett, age 47, of Onarga. According to police reports, Bennett was charged with Domestic Battery. Bennett was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he was released with a notice to appear.

On July 12th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Megan Green, age 32, of Kankakee. According to police reports, Green was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging her with driving while license suspended. Green was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where she was released with a notice to appear.

On July 12th 2026, Chad C. Koester, age 37, of Gilman turned himself into the Iroquois County Jail to begin a 90-day sentence for driving while license revoked.

On July 12th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Brandon M. Crawford, age 41, of Gilman. According to police reports, Crawford was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with resisting arrest. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released.

On July 12th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Clark E. Steen, age 43, of Donna TX. According to police reports, Steen was charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Steen was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he was released with a notice to appear.

On July 15th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Alitheia T. Barbee, age 19, of Kankakee. According to police reports, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Barbee in rural Watseka. During the traffic stop, Barbee showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody and charged with DUI alcohol. Barbee was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where she was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 15 th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Bayleah J. Moore, age 27, of Hoopeston. According to police reports, Moore was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging her with possession of methamphetamine less than 5 grams. Moore was being held at the Vermillion County Jail, where she was taken into custody. Moore was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where she remains, awaiting her next court appearance.

On July 15th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Randy S. Dillon, age 43, of Danville. According to police reports, Dillion was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia. Dillion was being held at the Vermillion County Jail, where he was taken into custody. Dillion was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 16th, 2026, Lydia N. Suver, age 28, of Watseka, turned herself into the Iroquois County Jail. Suver was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging her with driving while license suspended. Suver was released on a notice to appear.

On July 17th' 2026, Stephen M. Mowery, age 33, of rural Watseka, turned himself into the Iroquois County Jail. Mowery was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging him with leaving the scene of an accident. Mowery remains at the jail, where he awaits his next court appearance.

On July 17th, 2026 the Milford Police Department arrested Jerry J. England, age 41, of Watseka. According to police reports, England was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging him with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. England was taken into custody and was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he remains, awaiting his next court appearance.

On July 17th, 2026, the Milford Police Department arrested Joseph D. Hart, age 41, of Hoopeston. According to police reports, Hart was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant, charging him with domestic battery. Hart was taken into custody and was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he remains, awaiting his next court appearance.

 A 43-year-old man was last seen over a week ago, and the Watseka Police Department is turning to the public to help find him.

In a Facebook post, police said they are looking for information on 43-year-old Thomas L. Boyer, who was reported missing on Monday, July 13. He was last seen on Sunday, July 5 at approximately 5 p.m. in Watseka.

Boyer is described as a 6’4″ man weighing 170 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

On July 2, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Watseka Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of West Walnut Street for criminal damage to property. According to reports, Ceu Tling, 42 of Carol Stream was arrested for criminal damage to property, Additionally Tling had an active Kankakee County Warrant. Tling was transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident.

On July 2, at 4:12 p.m., the Watseka Police Department conducted a park check in the 100 block of West Fleming Street. According to reports, Billy J . Stevens, 46 of Watseka, was arrested for sexual predator loitering in a public park and possession of drug equipment. Additionally, Timothy W. Alexion, 31 of Watseka, was also arrested for possession of hypodermic needle. Stevens and Alexion were transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident.

On July 6, at 10:41 a.m., the Watseka Police Department was dispatched to the parking lot in the 700 block of E Walnut Street for an intoxicated subject inside a vehicle. According to reports the vehicle was gone before officers arrived. A short time later the officers located the vehicle in the 500 block of East Mulberry Street. Kevin R. Auld, 34 of Fowler, Indiana was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Auld was transported to the Iroquois County Jail without incident.

On July 5th 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Jacob D. Fitzpatrick, age 35, of Clifton. According to police reports, Fitzpatrick was charged with aggravated domestic battery. Fitzpatrick was taken into custody and transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 6th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Christian D. Jackson, age 23, of Stockland. According to police reports, Jackson was charged with aggravated assault. Jackson was taken into custody and transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 6th, 2026, Milford Police Department arrested Jacob C. Reed, age 28, of Milford. According to police report, Reed had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Iroquois County, charging him with indecent solicitation of a child. Reed was taken into custody and was transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

On July 9th, 2026, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested James. A. Butler Lighthart, age 20, of Cissna Park. According to police reports, Butler Lighthart was charged with domestic battery. Butler Lighthart was taken into custody and transported to the Iroquois County Jail, where he was later released on a notice to appear.

Illinois State Rep. Carol Ammons, (D-Urbana), has been indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple felony charges, including wire fraud, making false statements and conspiracy to obstruct justice, according to an indictment unsealed this week. Her husband, Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons, was also charged in the case.

Federal prosecutors allege Carol Ammons used campaign donations and contributions for personal benefit and participated in a scheme involving state grant funding that financially benefited members of her family.

The indictment includes eight counts of wire fraud against the longtime state lawmaker. Prosecutors also allege Carol and Aaron Ammons provided false information to federal investigators and attempted to interfere with the FBI’s investigation.

According to the indictment, Carol Ammons helped secure state funding for local organizations and allegedly directed grant resources to groups that ultimately benefited her family. Prosecutors contend one grant recipient employed her daughter, creating what investigators described as an impermissible conflict of interest under Illinois law.

The charging documents further allege that campaign funds were converted to personal use and that the defendants took steps to conceal their actions from election authorities and law enforcement. Federal investigators also accuse the couple of attempting to influence how a potential witness communicated with investigators during the probe.

The indictment comes about a month after the couple’s daughter, former Champaign County Board member Titianna Ammons, was separately indicted on unrelated federal wire fraud allegations involving unemployment benefits.

In response to the charges, Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie called for Ammons to step down immediately.

“Public officials must be held to the highest ethical standards and Rep. Carol Ammons should resign immediately. Speaker Welch should join me in calling for her resignation. Leadership means holding your own members accountable, not waiting until political pressure becomes unavoidable,” McCombie said.

“Elected officials are entrusted with serving the public, not enriching themselves, and the seriousness of these allegations demands accountability.

“House Republicans have consistently pushed for stronger ethics laws and greater accountability, while the Democratic majority has repeatedly blocked or ignored meaningful ethics reform. Illinois deserves better.”

Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch stopped short of calling for Ammons’ resignation but announced several immediate actions in response to the indictment.

“The allegations in this indictment are extremely serious. Every person under our system of justice is entitled to the presumption of innocence and due process. The U.S. Attorney will lay out evidence in court, where Representative Ammons will have the chance to defend herself against the allegations,” Welch said.

“In the interest of upholding the integrity of the House and ensuring we can continue our important work without distraction, I am taking the following actions immediately while this case is pending: I am temporarily removing Representative Ammons from any and all House Democratic Caucus meetings, from all House committees, and from accessing Speaker’s Office staff and resources. Additionally, I directed my staff to review the budget to determine whether any funds need to be paused or reconsidered.”

Court records indicate Carol and Aaron Ammons are scheduled to make their initial appearances in federal court later this month. The case will proceed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois.

Ammons, who has represented the Urbana-area 103rd House District since 2015, remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
