Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 9/25/18

On September 24th, 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Christopher D. Most, age 29, of Bradley, IL. According to police reports, Most was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with theft and burglary. Most was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

ISP Arrests DUI Arrests

 Illinois State Police (ISP) District 21 is reporting the arrest of Alejandro Perales, 33, of Berwyn; Todd S. Skopik, 43, of Kankakee; and Curtis J. Childs, 39, of Kankakee all for Driving Under the Influence. 
 
 
On September 19, 2018 at approximately 12:53 A.M., an Illinois State Trooper was on patrol in Iroquois County.  The trooper observed a vehicle cross the center line several times on I-57 northbound at milepost 285.    The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Alejandro Perales.  Perales showed signs of drug impairment.  Perales was placed under arrest and transported to the Iroquois County Jail for processing.  Perales was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and issued citations for improper lane usage, driving while license revoked, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. 
 
On September 21, 2018 at approximately 9:40 P.M., an Illinois State Trooper was on patrol in Kankakee County.  The trooper observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 17 at 4500 E Road.  The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Todd Skopik.  Skopik showed signs of alcohol impairment.  Skopik was placed under arrest and transported to the Kankakee County Jail for processing.  Skopik was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and issued a citation for speeding.   
 
On September 23, 2018 at approximately 2:47 A.M., an Illinois State Trooper was on patrol in Kankakee County.  The trooper observed a vehicle make a lane change without signaling and then stop in the lane of traffic on Route 50 at North Street.  The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Curtis Childs.  Childs showed signs of alcohol impairment.  Childs was placed under arrest and transported to the Kankakee County Jail for processing.  Childs was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.  Childs was issued citations for improper parking on the roadway, driving while license revoked, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol, and failure to signal when changing lanes. 

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 9/22/18

On September 21 st, 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Jack L. McKayr age 58, of Milford, IL. According to police reports, McKay was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with theft under $500. McKay was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released.

 

On September 21 st, 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Nicholas A. Siebert, age 39, of Watseka, IL. According to police reports, Siebert was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with driving while license is revoked, Siebett was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released.

 

On September 21 3t, 2018, Iroquois County Sheriff's Police arrested Chad C. Koester, age 30, Of Watseka, IL. According to police reports, Koester was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with forgery. Koester was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

 

On September 21 st,2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police investigated a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Co. Rd. 2950 N at Co. Rd. 700 E. According to police reports, a vehicle driven by Barbara A Lippoldt, age 48, of Buckingham, IL. was traveling northbound on CO. Rd. 700 E when a vehicle driven by Susan M. Metz, age 64, of Ashkum, IL. was traveling eastbound on CO. Rd. 2950 N. Lippoldt stopped at the stop sign at the intersection but did not observe Metz approaching because of the sun obscuring her vision- Lippoldt started through the intersection pulling into the path of Metz causing both vehicles to collide. No injuries were reported and one citation was issued to Lippoidt for failure to yield right of way at an intersection.

Watseka Police investigated a report of a suspicious person in the 100 block of E Oak at 11:47 P.M. on 0900-18.

Watseka Police responded to a report of a loose dog in the 300 block of E Elm at 4:52 A.M. on 09-21-18.

Watseka Police investigated a report of a stabbing that occurred in the 400 block of E Walnut at approximately 3:30 A.M. on 09-21-18. According to Police reports, Police responded to a 911 hang up and upon arrival they located a male subject that had been stabbed in the abdomen. The male subject was transported to IMH with serious injuries, and was later transferred out. Once Police arrived at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, they located a second victim that had reportedly been struck with a bat in the back and arm. Both subjects remain hospitalized. The investigation is ongoing.

On September 19th, 2018, Sheldon Police arrested James R. Kupferer, age 31, of Kankakee. According to police reports, Kupferer was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond

 

On September 20th, 2018, Milford Police arrested Brittany C. Burnside, age 30, of Watseka. According to potice reports, Burnside was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging her with failure to appear for theft. She was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where she remains in lieu of bond.

Watseka Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at 5:05 P.M. on 0918-18 in the 1700 Block of E Walnut. According to Police reports, a vehicle driven by Linda A Gregar, 61 Gilman was backing from a parking spot when she struck a parked vehicle belonging to Julie A Lange, Crescent City. Damage was estimated at over $1,500. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

Watseka Police investigated a suspicious vehicle at 12:19 A.M. on 0919-18 in the 600 block of N Sixth.

Newton County Sheriff's Deputies report another Fatal Accident *******UPDATED*******

9-18-18 10:11am Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of CR400E and CR 900N involving a passenger car and a scooter.

 

According to a witness statement, the scooter (operated by Randy  Cain) was eastbound on CR 900N and failed to stop and yield to the northbound passenger car.  The crash resulted in the fatality of  61 year old Randy Cain of Lake Village, IN.   The driver of the other vehicle, Brittany Klemz,  33 years old of Fair Oaks, IN refused medical treatment at the scene.

 

Family has been notified.

 

Newton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Newton County EMS, Lincoln Twp Fire Dept and the Newton County Coroners Officer.

 

Watseka Police Department News 9/15-9/18/18

Police conducted a traffic stop on US 24 near St. Peters Body Shop at 8:34 am. A verbal warning was given.

Police responded to a fight in progress In the 500 block of E. Walnut St. at 11:23 am. One subject was transported to IMH with minor Injuries. Police were called to the same area at 12:49 pm for the same two subjects arguing again. Parties were separated and advised of their options,

Police responded to a business jn the 100 block of E. Walnut at 1:38 pm In reference to a stolen cell phone,

Police responded to a physical domestic dispute In the 400 block of E. Cherry St. at 2:24 pm. This lead to the arrest of Nicholas Coleman, 28, Watseka for Domestic Battery, Coleman was also found to be wanted on an active Iroquois County Warrant charging him with FTA for Criminal Damage to Property.

He was taken to the county Jail where he Is being held,

Police responded to the 300 block of W. Walnut at 3:02 pm for a suspicious person.

Police responded to a suspicious male and female behind a business In the 100 block of W, Walnut at 3:51 pm,

Police responded to pan handlers in the 1700 block of E, Walnut at 4:28 pm. Subjects were ordered to move along.

Police responded to a subject with a weapon In a vehicle that had displayed it to some subjects In the 100 block of N. Jefferson at 7:46 pm. Police located the vehicle in the area of Pleasant and Virginia a short time later, The driver advised he had been threatened and had the weapon, a machete for protection, The weapon was confiscated.

Police conducted a traffic Stop at North and Second St. at 9:00 pm, A verbal warning was Issued for improper lighting.

Police responded to the 500 block of S. 4th at 9:53 pm for a found hypodermic needle,

Police were called to check for trespassers in a residence in the 100 block of Creek Side Ct. at 10;59 pm. No One was located Inside the residence.

Police located a suspicious vehicle In Legion Park at 11:36 pm. Subjects were told to leave the park.

 

Police issued a verbal warning for an Illegally parked vehicle in the 200 block of E. Walnut at 12:34 am.

Police responded to a reckless driver in the 200 block of W, Walnut at 1:28 pm.

 

Police were called to the 200 block of N. 4th St. in reference to a flight at 2:14 pm. Subjects had left prior to Police arriving.

Police located a wanted subject in the area of North and Second St at 8:49 am. Arrested was Cassie Arenibar, 29, Watseka, for a failure to appear on a No Valid License charge. After her arrest Officers located a Hypodermic Needle and other Drug Paraphernalia on her person• she was charged with this as well, She was transported to the County Jail where she Is being held,

Police located (3) suspicious person In the 100 block of W. Oak at 12:02am.

Police responded to loud noises coming from a residence in the area of 5th and Western at 4:05 am. On arrival it was determined to be a domestic dispute but one party had already left and the other refused to pursue charges,

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 9/18/18

On September 16th , 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Sean J. Jordan, age 42, of Chebanse, IL. According to police reports, Jordan was charged with domestic battery. Jordan was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

 

On September 16fr , 2018, Iroquois County Sheriff's Police arrested Joseph McCormick, age 25, of Hoopeston, IL. According to police reports, McCormick was charged with domestic battery and aggravated battery to a Police Officer. McCormick was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond,

 

On September 17th , 2018, Sheldon Police arrested Mercedes Marquis, age 27, of Sheldon, IL. According to police reports, Marquis was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Missouri. Marquis was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where she remains in lieu of bond.

Newton County Police Investigate a Fatal Crash

 

On 9/16/2018 at approximately 2:20 A.M. Newton County Sheriff’s Department responded a report of a vehicle that struck a utility pole on State Road 10 east of US 41.

Preliminary investigation by Deputy Hamilton shows a 2004 Silver Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Robert Tyson, 33, of Lake Station, Indiana was traveling East bound on State Road 10 when the vehicle disregarded the stop light at the intersection of State Road 10 and US 41. The vehicle then lost control and went off the road way, causing the vehicle to strike a utility pole.

The driver, Tyson, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Family has been notified.  The crash is still under investigation.

Police responded to the 200 block of Brianna drive at 3:05 am in reference to a subject locating illegal narcotics In their vehicle. Subject was an LJber driver and located the narcotics after dropping off several fares and returning home.

 

Police responded to East Walnut St. for a reckless driver at 6;02 am.

Police responded to the 300 block of E, Locust for a found Syringe at 7:20 am.

Police responded to the 900 block of W, Maln St, for a dog running loose at 9:35 am, The owner was located a cited for the offense,

Police responded to the corner of 8th and Cherry for Illegal burning at 9;52 am,

Police responded to the SOO block of E. Walnut for a welfare check at 10:59 am.

Police arrested Cortney McKlnney, 22, Watseka, at 12:05 pm in the 300 block of N. 5th St, she was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County Warrant charging her with Burglary. She was transported to the County Jail where she is being held,

Police arrested Mark Depatis, 46, Homeless, in the 300 block of E. Walnut at 5:44 pm on an outstanding Iroquois County Warrant charging him with Burglary. He was transported to the County Jail where he is belng held.

Pollce responded to a Domestic Disturbance in the 200 block of E. Sheridan at 5:55 pm. Police responded to the 400 block of N. 5th In reference to Criminal Damage to Property at 7:18 pm,

Police responded to a suspicious person In the 300 block of E. Cherry St. at 7:19 pm,

Police responded to a Domestic Disturbance In the 300 block of N, 6th St, at 7:51 pm, Police responded to a hit and run accident In the 400 block of N, 4th St, at 8:56 pm. According to reports a 2012 Dodge Ram owned by Joy Norder, Watseka, was struck by an unknown vehicle while parked in that area.

Police responded to a female subject laying In the roadway at the Intersection of Fleming and Division at 11:45 pm. Police located her and she was released to a friend for the evening.

 

Police Investigated a suspicious circumstance at a business in the 100 block of N. Jefferson at 1:16 am. The building was found to be secured.

Semi vs. Pickup Truck Crash

Route 115 @ 7000W (Kankakee County)

Thursday, September 16, 2018, 10:01 a.m.

Unit One: 2007 Volvo, Truck Tractor

Unit Two: 2014 Dodge Ram

Unit One: Gerbretsadik T. Hagdu, 37, Sioux City, IA

Unit Two: Laverne R. Schultz, 85, Herscher

Preliminary investigation has indicated the Semi was traveling northbound on Kankakee County 7000 West Road approaching Route 115. The Dodge was traveling eastbound on Route 115 approaching Kankakee County 7000 West Road. The Semi failed to stop/yield at the regulated stop sign. The Semi entered onto Route 115 and the Dodge was unable to avoid the collision. The Dodge struck the Semi on the driver's side truck tractor drive axle. The driver of the Dodge was transported to Riverside Hospital and later flown to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. The driver of the Semi refused medical treatment at the scene.

The driver of the Semi was issued a citation for Failure to Yield at an

Intersection.

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 9/14/18

On September 10th , 2018) Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Joel C. Ishmiel, age 24, of Gilman. According to police reports, Ishmiel was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while license suspended. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released.

 

 
 


On September 13th , 2018, Jroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Candace B. Pinkstaff, age 211 of Watseka, According to police reports, Pinkstaff was wanted on two outstanding warrants charging her with burglary and failure to appear for resisting arrest Additionally, Pinkstaff was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotics instrument, theft and forgery. She was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where she remains in lieu of bond.

Police responded to the 900 block of W, Main St, at 8:43 am in reference to a suspicious person. Police located Thomas Kusman, 45, Watseka, ad placed him into custody for Vlolatlon of an Order of Protection, He was transported to the County Jall where he Is being held.

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 9/10/18

On September 7th, 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Travis M. Dickinson, age 26, of Watseka, IL. According to police reports, Dickinson was charged domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a domestic violence. Dickinson was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

 

On September 7th , 2018, Sheldon Police arrested Eric J- Holt, age 31 , of Watseka, IL. According to police reports, Holt was charged with driving while license suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. Holt was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

 

On September 8th , 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Ronald J, Jenczalik, age 44, of Beaverville, IL. According to police reports, Jenczalik was wanted on an outstanding Newton County, IN. warrant for conspiracy to commit burglary. Jenczalik was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

 

On September 8th, 2018, Jeremy M. Kraud, age 39, of Watseka, IL. turned himself into the Iroquois County Jail to start serving a 8 weekend sentence for delivery of cannabis 2.5-10 grams.

 

On September 8th, 2018, Sheldon Police arrested Paula S, Jones, age 53, of Hoopeston, IL. According to police reports, Jones was charged possession of methamphetamine. Jones was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where she remains in lieu of bond.

Fatal Car Crash in Newton County

 

FATAL CRASH- LINCOLN TWP

On September 3, 2018 at 11:56am Newton County Deputies responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on CR 900N, West of SR 55. 

 

The preliminary investigation indicates a 53 year old Lake Village man was traveling East on CR 900N in a 2017 Ford F150 pick up.  A 2000 Chevrolet pickup, operated by a 19 year old Rensselaer man was traveling Westbound.

 

The vehicles collided head-on resulting in the death of the Lake Village man.

 

The crash remains under investigation.  Anyone that may have information or witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office 219-474-6081 EXT 3114.

 

Names are being withheld at this time as the investigation continues.

 

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police News from Labor Day Weekend

On September 2nd, 2018, Iroquois County Sheriff's Police arrested Sean J. Jordan, age 42, of Chebanse, IL. According to police reports, Jordan was charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a domestic violence. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released.

 

On September 1 st, 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police investigated a two vehicle accident on Church Ave. and Bunker St. in Iroquois, IL. According to police reports, a vehicle driven by Thomas W. McCabe, age 25, of Iroquois, was traveling westbound on Church St. when a vehicle driven by, Nicholas ss Watwer, age 21, of Watseka, was traveling northbound on Bunker St. At the intersection of Bunker St. and Church Ave. MCCabe was crossing the intersection when he was struck by Walwer- No injuries were reported and no citations were issued

 

On September 3rd , 2018, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Michele L. Heffelfinger, age 38, of Milfordl IL. According to police reports, Heffetfinger was charged with theft under $500. Heffelfinger was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where she posted the required bond and was released.

Police located an abandoned scooter in Kay Park at 6:35 am, It was towed to the impound lot.

Police located a subject trespassing on private property In the 200 block of West Flemmlng at 10:09 am.

This lead to the arrest of Angela Jantz, 38, Watertown, WI. Police charged Jantz wlth Possession of a Controlled Substance, Crlmjnat Trespass to Land, Possesslon of a Narcotic Instrument, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Identification. She was taken to the County Jail.

Police responded to a call of a subject bathing a dog in the pond at Lakeview Park at 10:21 am.

Police responded to a theft from a parked train in the 200 block of S. Yount at 3:10pm.

Police responded to a call of a reckless driver in the 800 block Of West Lafayette at 4:48 pm
