Watseka Police responded to a two vehicle accident in the 100 block of S Belmont at 11:18 A.M. on 11-25-19. According to Police reports, a vehicle driven by Lucas M Nutter, 17 Martinton was attempting to park when he struck a parked vehicle belonging to Michael Davis, Iroquois. Damage was estimated at over $500.

Watseka Police arrested Gerardo G Alvarado, 20 Gilman in the 300 block of N Jefferson at 12:04 A.M. on 11-26-19. Alvarado was charged with driving while license suspended and operation of a motor vehicle with expired registration. Alvarado was transported to the Iroquois County jail.

Watseka Police arrested Charles R Alexander, 33 West Lafayette IN in the 500 block of E Walnut at 1:45 A.M. on 11-26-19. Alexander was charged with Possession of a controlled substance, Possession of a hypodermic needle, obstructing justice and bringing contraband into a penal institution. Alexander was transported to the Iroquois County jail.

Illinois State Police (ISP) District 21 is reporting the arrest of Kyra C. Tucker, 27, of Kankakee for DUI and Artura Ibarra, 19, of Champaign for Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

On November 23, 2019 at approximately 2:34 A.M., an Illinois State Trooper was on patrol in Kankakee County. The trooper observed a vehicle traveling all over the roadway at a high rate of speed on Court St. at Schuyler Ave. The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Kyra Tucker. Tucker showed signs of alcohol impairment. Tucker was placed under arrest and transported to the Kankakee County Jail for processing. Tucker was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and issued citations for speeding and improper lane usage.
On November 21, 2019 at approximately 10:09 P.M., an Illinois State Trooper was on patrol in Kankakee County. The trooper observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-57 southbound at milepost 307. The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Arturo Ibarra. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9mm handgun. Ibarra was placed under arrest and transported to the Kankakee County Jail for processing. Ibarra was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm without a valid FOID, and Possession of Ammunition without a valid FOID.

Watseka Police arrested Kristy L Gossett, 34 Hoopeston at 9:25 P.M. on 11-24-19 after Watseka Police were alerted about a vehicle that had struck a pole and the driver had left the scene. Gossett later returned to the vehicle and was charged with obstructing a• Police officer, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to report an accident to  Police authority. Gossett was transported to the Iroquois County jail.

***UPDATED*****Stabbing Death in Watseka

The Watseka Police have identified the victim in a stabbing death that occurred in the 100 block of E Oak at approximately 4:14 P.M. on 11-2119. The victim has been identified as Isaiah D Nelson, 22 last known address Watseka. Police arrested Andre Maiden, 23 of Kankakee and he was charged with aggravated battery. Police expect the charges to be changed pending review of evidence by the State's Attorney's Office. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 11/23/19

On November 20th, 2019 Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Nathaniel J. Laird, age 43, of Watseka. According to police reports, Laird was arrested for DUI after crashing his vehicle into a ditch on Co. Rd. 1700 N. near Co. Rd. 1600 E. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released.

 

On November 21 8t Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Gavin D. Graham, age 191 of Clifton. According to police reports, Graham was arrested for possession of cannabis 100-500 grams. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released-

Arson and Meth land an Iroquois County Man in Jail

On Thursday, November 21 2019, the Milford Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at 1961 E 1100 N Road in rural Milford. Upon their arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from the second story of the residence and began battling the blaze at which time they encountered a male subject armed with a gun in a first-floor bedroom, Firefighters backed away from the residence and awaited the arrival of Sheriffs Deputies, who made contact with the subject and safely removed him from the residence. The subject, identified as 33-year-old Olan E. Morris Ill, was subsequently transported to IMH by Milford Ambulance. After extinguishing the blaze, the State Fire Marshal's Office was contacted and responded to the scene. Following his release from IMH, Mr. Morris was taken in to custody and transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he was charged with Residential Arson and Methamphetamine Possession. Mr. Morris remains in custody awaiting a court appearance, while the fire remains under investigation by the Sheriffs Office and the State Fire Marshal. The Sheriffs Office and the Milford Fire Department were assisted at the scene by multiple agencies, including the Milford Police Department and the Woodland, Cissna Park, Sheldon and Stockland Fire Departments.

Stabbing Death in Watseka

The Watseka Police were called to the 100 block of E Oak in regards to a stabbing that occurred at approximately 4:14 P.M. on 11-21-19. Upon arrival Police found a man wounded from a stab wound to the neck. Riverside ambulance was called to the scene and transported the victim to IMH. Upon arrival at IMH Police located the suspect at the hospital being treated for a stab wound. The victim, whose name is being held pending the notification of relatives, later died at IMH. Police later arrested Andre Maiden, 23 Kankakee and he was charged with aggravated battery. Police expect the charges to be changed pending review of evidence by the State's Attorney's Office. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Illinois State Police District 21 Commander, Captain Don Aaron Harsy, announced today activity and enforcement figures for October 2019.

Illinois State Police District 21 Troopers issued 503 citations, 957 written warnings, including 6 DUIs, 33 seatbelt citations, 25 criminal arrests. Troopers also assisted 142 motorists, conducted 201 Motor Carrier Inspections, and investigated 108 traffic crashes. There was 1 fatal crash resulting in 2 fatalities investigated by District 21 in October.
According to the National Safety Council the major contributing factors to motor-vehicle deaths in the United States are lack of occupant protection, alcohol, speeding, young drivers, distractions, and large trucks.
In an effort to reduce fatalities, the Illinois State Police uses enforcement activities and educational programs to fight these major contributing factors.

Little Mr. & Miss Snowflake Coloring Contest winners announced

The Watseka Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the winners of the Little Mister & Miss Snowflake Coloring Contest.

The Little Mister & Miss Snowflake Contest was a coloring contest; open to area children ages 3 through 7. This year’s winners will ride in the 2019 Christmas Parade with Santa, Willow Zielie of Watseka she is 6 years old, her parents are Stephanie Zielie & Rodney Patterson and Hudson Hill of Milford he is 5 years old, his parents are Kristina McKay & Zach Hill. Watseka Police arrested Jeremiah J Walker, 41 Watseka in the 800 block of N Virginia at 8:01 A.M. on 11-14-19. Walker was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant charging him with Failure to appear on a charge of theft. Walker was transported to the Iroquois County jail.

No citations were issued and no injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at over $1,500.

Daniels was transported to the Iroquois County jail.

According to Police reports, a vehicle driven by George F Elpers, 38 Milford was driving on Pleasant St when he was unable to stop his vehicle, causing him to strike a fence, grill and drive onto a patio. Elpers was cited for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Elpers posted bond and was released. No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at over $1,500.

On Saturday, November 16, 2019 about 8:00PM, a male described as 5’ 5” to 5’ 8” with a slim build, wearing a black trench coat style jacket, dark green stocking cap, mask, jeans and black gloves entered the AMSTAR gas station on CR 300W in Lake Village.  (about ¾ mile south of US 41 and SR 10).

 

The unknown male demanded money.  No weapon was displayed.  It is believed he then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of US currency.

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 11/16/19

On November 1 I th, 2019 Iroquois County Sheriffs Police investigated a single vehicle accident on State Route 49 near the residence at 1474 N. According to police reports, a vehicle driven by Ayanna L. Jamison, age 38, of Danville, ll. lost control of his vehicle on the ice and snow covered road striking a tree. More than $1 ,500 in damages were reported. No citations or injuries were reported.

On November 12, 2019 Iroquois County Sheriffs Police investigated a single vehicle accident on Co- Rd. 500 N near Co. Rds 1400 E, According to police reports a vehicle driven by Mark A. Perry, age 65, of Veedersburg, (N. lost control of his vehicle on an ice and snow covered roadway, He then entered the ditch overturning one time coming to a rest on its roof. Over $1 ,500 in damages were reported. No citations or injuries were reported.

On November 12th , 2019 Iroquois County Sheriffs Police investigated a single vehicle accident on Co. Rd. 1050 N. near Co. Rd- 2670 E. According to police reports a vehicle driven by Nicholas D. Gryczewski, age 23, of Watseka, ll. lost control of his vehicle on an ice and snow covered roadway. He then entered the ditch striking a utility pole and then a tree. Over $1 ,500 in damages were reported- No citations or injuries were reported,

On November 12th, 2019 Iroquois County Sheriffs Police investigated a single vehicle accident on Co, Rd. 3400 N. near Co. Rd. 200 E. According to police reports a vehicle driven by James M. Davis, age 471 of Godley, Il, lost control of his vehicle on an ice and snow covered roadway. He then entered the ditch striking a utility pole and rolling once. Over $11500 in damages were reported. No citations or injuries were reported.

On November 12th, 2019 Iroquois County Sheriffs Police investigated a single vehicle accident on Co, Rd. 2700 N- near Co. Rd. 200 E- According to police reports a vehicle driven by Derek R. Baron, age 23, of Whiting, IN. lost control of his vehicle on an ice and snow covered roadway, He then entered the ditch rolling three times. Over $1 ,500 in damages were reported. No citations or injuries were reported.

On November 15th, 2019 Iroquois County Sheriff's Police investigated a single vehicle accident on Co. Rd- 2400 N. near Co. Rd. 1600 E, According to police reports a vehicle driven by Derek R. Baron, age 231 of Whiting, IN. lost control of his vehicle on an ice and snow coved roadway. He then entered the ditch rolling three times. Over $1,500 in damages were reported. No citations or injuries were reported.

On November 13th, 2019 Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Earl K- Norris, age 54, of Watseka, According to police reports, Norris was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond,

Watseka Police conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Bell Rd at 10:52 P.M. on 11-09-19. The driver was issued a warning for speeding.

Watseka Police conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of E Walnut at 12:26 A.M. on 11-10-19. The driver was issued a warning for improper lighting.

 

Watseka Police investigated a two vehicle accident in the 1500 block of E Walnut at 2:37 P.M. on 11-10-19. According to Police reports, a vehicle driven by Michael A Weigand, 59 Bourbonnais was driving through the parking lot when he failed to see a vehicle backing out of a parking spot driven by Martin Vargas, 32 Onarga. No citations were issued and no injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at over $1,500.

Illinois State Police District 21 Report 11/12/19

Illinois State Police (ISP) District 21 is reporting the arrest of Robert L. Winge, 58, of Chebanse for DUI; Johnny L. Winston Sr., 55, of Champaign for Possession of Cannabis more than 30 grams but less than 500 grams; Eduardo A. Del Toro, 38, of Manteno for DUI; and Jose A. Barrios, 33, of Beecher for DUI.

 


On November 5, 2019 at approximately 10:32 P.M., an Illinois State Trooper was dispatched to a crash on Route 45/52 at 5000S (Kankakee County).  The trooper arrived on scene and spoke with the driver, Robert Winge.  Winge showed signs of alcohol impairment.  Winge was placed under arrest and transported to the Kankakee County Jail for processing.  Winge was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.  

 

On November 8, 2019 at approximately 10:14 P.M., an Illinois State Trooper was on patrol in Iroquois County.  The trooper observed a vehicle pulled over on the right shoulder of I-57 southbound at milepost 271.  The trooper approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Johnny Winston Sr.  A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 465 grams of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.  Winston was placed under arrest and transported to the Iroquois County Jail for processing.  Winston was charged with Possession of Cannabis more than 30 Grams but not more than 500 Grams, and Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis more than 30 Grams but not more than 500 Grams. Winston was also issued citations for illegal parking on the roadway and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.   

 

On November 9, 2019 at approximately 12:39 A.M., an Illinois State Trooper was on patrol in Kankakee County.  The trooper observed a vehicle traveling all over the roadway on Route 45 at 9000N.  The trooper stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Eduardo Del Toro.  Del Toro showed signs of alcohol impairment.  Del Toro was placed under arrest and transported to the Kankakee County Jail for processing.  Del Toro was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Wanted on Warrant.  Del Toro was also issued citations for improper lane usage, driver’s license not on person, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and illegal transportation of alcohol. 

 

 

On November 9, 2019 at approximately 7:04 P.M., an Illinois State Trooper was dispatched to a crash on Route 17 at Sandbar Road in Kankakee County.  The trooper arrived at the hospital and spoke with the driver, Jose A. Barrios.  Barrios showed signs of alcohol impairment.  Barrios was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.  Barrios was also issued citations for driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

PRELIMINARY:

 

Preliminary investigation has indicated the Tractor was turning onto his farm property pulling two loaded grain wagons. The Chevrolet rear ended the rear wagon of the Tractor. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased at Iroquois Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Tractor was transported to Hoopeston Hospital with minor injuries.

Festival of Trees- Spread the Cheer

Rankin woman passes away after car accident

 Rankin woman has died after being involved in a motor vehicle crash in Ford County on Tuesday.  Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says Mary Diskin, 84, was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday.

The Coroner said Ms. Diskin was reportedly traveling northbound on 2600 E Road in Ford County when her vehicle collided with another traveling eastbound on 200 N Road.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, and the Coroner says an inquest may be held later.  The death is being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and Ford County Sheriff’s Police.

Illinois State Police Arrest IDOC Employee

GALESBURG, IL - On October 23, 2019, the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Internal Investigation (DII) arrested Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Parole Officer Garrick Randolph, a 52 year-old male, on two counts of Custodial Sexual Misconduct and two counts Official Misconduct.

 

On August 13, 2019, the ISP was notified by the Galesburg Police Department (GPD) of an allegation of Custodial Sexual Misconduct and Official Misconduct against IDOC Parole Officer Garrick Randolph.

 

On August 12, 2019, the GPD completed a sexual assault report made by a female parolee.  The parolee advised, once, in mid-July 2019, Randolph sexually assaulted her while in her residence.  DII interviewed the parolee who confirmed the information reported to GPD.  DII agents also located and interviewed a second female victim who advised Randolph sexually assaulted her during the commission of his duties as a Parole Officer.

 

On October 23, 2019, DII agents obtained two (2) original arrest warrants from Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office for the above specified charges. Subsequently, Randolph voluntarily reported to the Galesburg Police Department where he was taken into custody. Randolph was held at the Knox County Jail, posted bond and was released the same day. The bond amount was set at $75,000 for each warrant arrest.

 

***The Knox County States Attorney’s Office indicated they will support additional charges should additional victims be located. If anyone has any information related to these crimes, please contact the ISP DII at 847/294-4466***

 

Iroquois County Sheriff's Police 11/5/19

 

On November 1st, 2019, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Michael T. Wazal, age 46, of Las Vegas, Nevada. According to police reports, Wazal was charged with domestic battery. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted the required bond and was released.

On November 1st, 2019, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Kurtis J. Simpson, age 34, of Hoopeston. According to police repor#i Simpson was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with theft and forgery, He was transported to the Iroquois County Jai! where he remains in lieu of bond.

On November 1st, 2019, James R. Nelson, age 34, of Onarga, turned himself into the Iroquois County Jail to begin a 60-day sentence for aggravated domestic battery.



On November 1st, 2019, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested James F- Bloomfield, age 42, of Milford. According to police reports, Bloomfield was wanted on two outstanding Vermilion County warrants. He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail to await extradition back to Vermilion County.

On November 1st, 2019, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Najee T. Benjamin, age 32, of Waukegan- According to police reports, Benjamin was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, He was transported to the Iroquois County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

On November 1st, 2019, Milford Police arrested Justin A. Sellars, age 25, of Milford. According to police reports, Sellars was charged with manufacture and delivery of cannabis, possession of cannabis, and was also found to be wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with theft.

On November 2 nd , 2019, Iroquois County Sheriffs Police arrested Joshua Morales, age 26, of Manteno. According to police reports, Morales was wanted on an outstanding Iroquois County warrant charging him with failure to appear for possession of methamphetamine. He was transported to the Iroquois


County Jail where he remains in lieu of bond.

Watseka Police arrested Tyler J Bruens, 24 Watseka in the 100 block of S Eighth at 7:43 P.M. on 11-02-19. Bruens was wanted on an Iroquois County warrant charging him with failure to appear on a charge of possession of hypodermic needles. Once Bruens was in custody Police found a hypodermic needle on his person, resulting in another charge of possession of a hypodermic needle. Bruens was transported to the Iroquois County jail.

Watseka Police investigated a two vehicle accident in the 300 block of S Third at

2:58 A.M. on 11-03-19. According to Police reports, a vehicle driven by Kelsey N Jones, 26 was Southbound on Third when she struck of parked vehicle belonging to Joseph P Lipnicki, Watseka. Jones was cited for operation of an uninsured

                              

motor vehicle and improper lane use. No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at over $1,500.
