Ann L. Medley (Chellberg), 83, of Kentland

Ann L. Medley (Chellberg), 83, of Kentland, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center of Urbana, IL surrounded by family.

She was born September 12, 1939 in Porter, IN to the late Carl and Hilda (Johnson) Chellberg. Ann was a graduate of Chesterton High School.  Her childhood home located in Porter County, Indiana has become part of Indiana Dunes National Park.  The Chellberg Farm is where people can go to be taken back to a simpler time and learn about farm life, homesteading, making homemade cider, etc., much as she did as a young girl.

Her marriage of 50 years was to Brent C. Medley "Carter" on October 28, 1961 in Augsburg Lutheran Church of Porter. Brent preceded her in death on August 16, 2012.

Ann was a former member of the Red Hat Society of Kentland and current member of Covenant Federated Church also of Kentland. She had worked for many years at the Nu-Joy Restaurant.

Ann loved her family and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watercolor painting, bird watching, and spending time and conversations with her long-time neighbors and friends. Ann was also an avid reader, mostly of murder mystery novels, and enjoyed watching westerns and crime shows.  Ann remained active enjoying walks (purposefully taking a bag with her on her walks to pick up litter alongside the road), riding her bicycle, and she couldn't pass by a yard sale without hunting for treasures.  Ann enjoyed tending to her flowers and plants, and also enjoyed spending time with the Kiwanis Club of Grant County, IN.

She is survived by four daughters, Karen (David) Miiller of Marion, IN; Joy (Jeff) Sands of Brook, IN; Jill Hardebeck (Brad Stonebarger) of Kentland, IN; and Shelly Medley Hall (Mike Wentzel) of Goodland, IN. Grandchildren, Craig (Danielle) Sands, Olivia Hardebeck, Devin Hall (Kenneth Applegate), Michelle Miiller (Desmond Wise), Michael (Madison) Miiller, and Levi Hall (Semy Allis). Great grandchildren, Desmond Wise Jr. and Marleigh Sands. Ann is also survived by her niece Ann Collins, great nephew Patrick Wilson (Samantha and children); great niece Brittney Hill (Ricky and children) and one great-great-great nephew.

Preceding her in death along with her husband and parents is one sister, Carmen Collins, her niece Betty Jean Collins, and two sons-in-law, Frank Hardebeck and Denzil Hall.

Ann's family would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, and staff at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana, the cardiac rehab team at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, and a special thanks to Dr. Aravind Reddy and his staff for his continuous care and treatment throughout the years.

Ann had a zest for life and enjoyed socializing with everyone, she did not know a stranger.  Always with a positive attitude, when asked how she was, no matter what, it was always answered with "fine, dandy and peachy".  She will be greatly missed by any who knew her.

Friends may call from 10 AM (Central time) until the time of Funeral Service 12 PM (Central time) Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Covenant Federated Church of Kentland. Interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Meyer to officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ann’s name to the Covenant Federated Church or American Heart Association.
