On 04/20/2024 at approximately 7:56 PM, Newton County Dispatch received a 911 call in reference to a car in the ditch with hazards on at the intersection of US 24 and SR 55.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Traverse (driven by a 35 year old Kentland man) was traveling eastbound on US 24 approaching SR 55 when for unknown reasons left the roadway on the south side of US 24, the vehicle then collided with a culvert before coming to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection. The driver of the vehicle was provided CPR on scene and transported to Riverside Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
