John F. Weller Sr., 82, of Piper City passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Piper City Health Care.
John was born on September 3, 1941 in Lafayette, IN, the son of Philip and Florence Catherine (Funk) Weller and they preceded him in death. He married Brenda K. Nichols on April 13, 1974 in Watseka and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2002 He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Edward, James, William, Charles, Louis, and Melvin; and one sister, Anna Marie Ellenwood; one son-in-law, Rick Oberloh and one brother-in-law, Leonard Etter.
He is survived by four children, Theresa Oberloh of Gibson City, John Weller Jr. of Thawville, Jennifer (Rob) Grossich of Piper City; and William (Kristie) Weller of Piper City; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and and five brothers and sisters, Rosalie Louise Etter of Indiana, Raymond Joseph (Jane) Weller of Indiana, Larry (Mary) Weller of Bloomington; Gerald (Pam) Weller of Remington, Mary (Rick) Pitstick of Rensselaer, IN and one brother-in-law, Mike Ellenwood of Ft. Wayne, IN.
John served in the United States Army. He also farmed for several years in Indiana and then worked for FS in Piper City for over twenty years in seed reproduction. John was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Piper City, Remington American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, walking, and visiting with people. His greatest joy was singing to his grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Knapp-Redenius Fneral Home in Gilman. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Brenton Cemetery in Piper City with Military Rites by the American Legion Gibb Post #588.
