Kenneth W. Weerts 84 of Cissna Park

Kenneth W. Weerts died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Hallmark Healthcare in Pekin, Ill.

 

He was born April 4, 1939, in Fairbury, Ill., to Harvey and Claire (Harvey) Weerts. He married his high-school sweetheart, Myrna Eisenman, on February 26, 1961, in Cissna Park, Ill.

 

Surviving are his wife of 63 years; two sons, David Weerts of St. Charles, Ill., and Dan (Denise) Weerts of Remington, Ind.; one daughter, Julie (Carol) Walder of East Peoria, Ill., and an honorary daughter, Sylvia (Walt) Laubscher of Cissna Park. Ken was pleased to count 11 grandchildren.

 

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Barbara Phelps.

 

A graduate of Cissna Park High School in 1957, Ken then got an accounting degree from Illinois Commercial College. He worked as an accountant for the Mid-Continent Telephone Company in Champaign, eventually being promoted up to the home office in Akron, Ohio where the family lived for four years. Then desiring to live closer to family and pursue his ambition to farm, they returned to the Cissna Park area in 1973 where Ken and Myrna resided until 2022. In addition to farming, he also worked for a time as an accountant for Waldbeser Inc., the John Deere dealership in Cissna Park, and later as a project manager for Vacuflow / Closet Concepts.

 

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Cissna Park where he served as a minister for 34 years.

 

Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, March 25, 2024 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park with ministers of the church officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Cissna Park.

 

Ken will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, a quiet leader, a reliable father, and proud grandpa. A humble man, he did not like talking about himself, believing that “…he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.” 2 Corinthians 10:17-18
