Dora Wagner, 97, of Urbana formerly of Cissna Park passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

 

Dora was born on March 8, 1927 in Auerbach, Germany, a daughter of Gustav and Luise (Reimuth) Egolf. Dora married Erhard Wagner on April 30, 1949 and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gustav and Wilhelm; and two sisters, Luise and Marta.

 

Dora is survived by three children, Werner (Elaine) Wagner of Urbana, Christian (Bette) Wagner of Urbana, and Rosemarie (Dave) Landolina of Gray, Maine; four grandchildren, Kurt, Katie, Sarah Wagner, and Jessica Lee; five great- grandchildren, Renee, Patrick, Amanda Wagner and Lucy and Toby Martin.

 

Dora and Erhard immigrated to U.S. with their son, Werner, aboard ship M.S. Gripsholm, departing Bremerhaven on November 23, 1954 and arriving in New York City on December 4, 1954. They established residency in Cissna Park, where Dora had aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dora and Erhard became naturalized citizens in Danville on Feb 27, 1963.

 

Dora fed her family well from her large bountiful garden, which was a garden that people would stop to admire! She was an exceptional cook both at home and for many years for the Cissna Park School District. She made quilts and enjoyed doing handiwork. Dora enjoyed learning from others and also sharing and teaching others her skills. In her retirement years, she cared for elderly shut-ins until she acknowledged around age 85 that she herself was elderly!

 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park. with Rev. Michael Stoerger officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Cissna Park.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, 302 S. 4th Street, Cissna Park, IL 60924.
