Robert R. Butzow, 79, of rural Crescent City

Robert R. Butzow, 79, of rural Crescent City passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 1, 2024 at his home. He was born on June 28, 1944 in Watseka, the son of Robert R. Butzow Sr. and Virginia (Strom) Butzow. He married Delores Schroeder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Woodworth on December 27, 1964.

 

His parents preceded him in passing.

 

Surviving are his wife, Delores Butzow of rural Crescent City; four children, Darrin (Angela) Butzow of Alpharetta, GA, Kristin (Eric) Carey of San Antonio, TX, Ryan (Candi) Butzow of rural Crescent City, and Mark (Gina) Butzow of Orland Park; ten grandchildren, Andy and Nick Butzow, Lauren, Stephanie, and Adam Carey, Quinn, Vaughn, and Wren Butzow, and Logan and Carter Butzow; and three siblings, Ron (Elaine) Butzow of Crescent City, Linda (Randy) Smith of Casey, IL, and Kathy (Rick) McTaggart of Watseka.

 

Bob was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Woodworth and attended services at Immanuel, Idaville. He lived his faith every day.

 

Mr. Butzow attended Crescent Grade School and High School. He graduated in 1962.

 

He served his country in the Army National Guard from June 1964 – June 1970.

 

He was employed at Watseka Bottle Gas in Watseka and in 1974 began farming with his father in law. He sold livestock feed for Moorman Mfg. and later ADM for over forty years.

 

Bob served on Crescent City Grade School Board for many years. He was also a member of the Iroquois County FSA Committee from 2012-2017.

 

In 2015, he was awarded the Iroquois County Soil and Water Conservation District Farmer Award.

 

Bob was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, bowling, camping, and vacationing with his family.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka as well as one hour prior to the services at church on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 am.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Woodworth. Rev Michael Ruhlig and Rev. Doug Minton will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

 

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School or Crescent-Iroquois EMT, or donor’s choice.
