Ronald L. King, 83, of Clifton

Ronald L. King, 83, of Clifton passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee. He was born on April 21, 1940 in Kankakee, the son of Leo and Gertrude (Aden) King. He married Sandra White in Clifton on January 19, 1963.

 

Surviving are his wife, Sandra King of Clifton; daughters, Kelly (Mark) Balthazor of Ashkum, Kandy (Kurt) Janssen of Ashkum, Kari (Michael) Thompson of Clifton, and Holly (Ryan) McMahon of Chicago; thirteen grandchildren, Kaylee (Cal) Mallaney, Bryan (Sarah) Balthazor, Michael (Caitlin) Balthazor, Kyle (Grace) Balthazor, Matthew Balthazor, Luke Balthazor, Tyler Balthazor, Kaitlyn Balthazor, David Janssen, Jamie Janssen, Riley (Michael) Prairie, Rachel Thompson, and Jake Thompson; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Bonnie Siedentop of Herscher, Carol Karsgaard of Ashkum, Donna (Charles “Bub”) Chandler of Clifton; and brother, Bob (Sandy) King of Ashkum.

 

He was preceded in passing by his parents; sister, Pat Ponton; and four brothers-in-law, Dale Siedentop, Dallas Karsgaard, Ronnie Ponton, and Glenn Prairie.

 

Mr. King was of the Catholic Faith and was a member of the St. Anne Elks Club. He drove a truck for KVCC for many years, owned Main Street Café, and farmed in the Ashkum area for many years. Ronald owned and operated King Brothers Trucking. Ronald loved deep sea fishing, being on the pontoon on the Kankakee River, gardening, playing cards, traveling, cooking, watching his grandchildren in sports, and entertaining others-especially his family.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Ashkum. Fr. Doug Hauber will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Clifton. Graveside military rites will be provided by Central VFW #2131 and Ashkum American Legion #643.

 

Memorials may be made to Clifton Food Pantry, Prairieview Lutheran Home, or to the Masses.
