LaVerne H. Hanson, 78, of Chebanse passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee due to complications from open heart surgery. He was born February 14, 1940 in Ashkum, the son of Edward and Maxine (Tatro) Hanson Sr. and they preceded him in death in addition to one brother, Lawrence Hanson and one great-grandson, Aiden.
He married Betty Kuntz on January 3, 1959 in Chebanse and she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Danny (Tamara) Hanson of Harrisburg, Tom (Barb) Hanson of Ashkum and David (Heather) Hanson of Chebanse; sixteen grandchildren, DJ (Neash), Michael (Nicole), Brandi (Blane), Aaron, Cassie, Breck, Briana, Brantlea, Charlotte (Chris), TJ (Jessica), Kayla, Amber (Corey), Ryne (Alexis), Austin, Chris and Abel; seventeen great-grandchildren, Chase, Caitlin, Chaela, Phoenix, Boyd, Royce, Mackenzie, Brendan, Brady, Devon, Ophelia, Olivia, Axel, Cameron, Elizabeth, Rylan and Rowan; two brothers, Eddie (Linda) Hanson of Clifton and Larry (Judy) Hanson of Clifton; and one sister, Linda (Jim) Schultz of Herscher. He loved his special puppy “Sissy”.
Mr. Hanson proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman First Class aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex from 1960-1964. He was an avid golfer and bowler and a huge fan of the White Sox and Bulls. Mr. Hanson retired from Shapiro Developmental Center as a tradesman.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
