Dwayne B. Bayston, 97, of Pickerington, OH and formerly of Gilman passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Amber Park Assisted Living Facility in Pickerington, OH.

Dwayne was born December 11, 1920 in Payton, IA, the son of Howard and Elnora (Haase) Bayston. He married Fern H. Froehling on December 14, 1941 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilman and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one granddaughter, Cynthia McMillan; and one son-in-law, Gary Grohler.

He is survived by two daughters, Christine (John) McMillan of Venice, FL and Mary Grohler of Pickerington, OH; one son, Tom (Debra) Bayston of Onarga; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Bayston served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Dwayne was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilman where he served on the church council and played dartball. Mr. Bayston was a lifelong farmer in the Onarga area. He was a member of the Watseka American Legion Post #23 and served on the Board of Directors at Delrey Farmers Grain.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Pastor Lynn Podoll will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Onarga Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Watseka American Legion Post #23.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilman.
