Newton County Sheriff's Office conducted traffic blitz

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office conducted two traffic blitz, one in September and one in October.  The focus was crash reduction efforts.  Speed, following too closely, distracted driving (hands free) and improper lane use were a few of the focus violations.

Members of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Reserves, Kentland Police Dept, Brook Police Dept and Drug Task Force worked together during these two, 4 hours blitz periods.  Results were as follows:

8 hours

220 vehicles stopped

110 traffic citations

141 written warnings

21 criminal charges ranging from OWI, drug possession, reckless driving and suspended license.

We wish to extend a special thank you to the Newton County Communications Dispatchers for the detailed and professional job they did during this time.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind motorist to slow down in the construction zones and if you must use a cell phone, use the hands free option while driving.
