WHAT:                Single Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

 

WHERE:            Il. Rt 1 at County Road (CR) 4000 N, North of Danville, Vermilion County

 

WHEN:                 Feb. 28, 2022 at approximately 5:00 a.m.

 

DRIVER:                Unit 1 – Charlie Dickerson, a 33-year-old male of Hoopeston, IL – Fatally Injured

 

VEHICLE:             Unit 1 – Gold 2002 GMC Envoy

 

PASSENGER:           Unit 1 – Desire Welch, a 24-year-old female of Hoopeston, IL

 

PRELIMINARY:     Unit 1 was traveling northbound on IL Rt. 1, just south of CR 4000 N.  Unit 1left the roadway to the left after sustaining a flat front passenger side tire. Once off the roadway, Unit 1 lost control and struck a ditch causing the vehicle to roll multiple times.  The driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle, and the driver received fatal injuries.  The passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to a regional hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
