NEWTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE RELEASE

On the morning of November 25th, 2021 Newton County Dispatch received a call for an unknown issue at the residence of 661 South Newton Street in Goodland, IN. Upon officer’s arrival they met with the alleged victim whom stated her brother was out of control destroying the house and acting erratically.

 

Officer’s made contact with the male subject who was identified as 40 year old Kevin W. Stone of Goodland, IN.  Officers attempted to speak with Stone, whom was non-compliant.  Officers attempted to place him in handcuffs at which time Stone became violent and attempted to flee back into the residence.  Officers struggled with Kevin until which time a Taser was deployed and was found to have no effect. Stone then charged officers in an aggressive manner at which time further Taser deployments and pepper spray deployments were made with no effect.  Stone fled back into the residence at which time officers set a perimeter and attempted to make contact with Stone over the loud speaker. Stone was seen breaking multiple windows out of the residence however would not make further contact with officers.  A short time later smoke was seen coming from a broken upstairs window and the house became fully involved in fire. Goodland Fire Department and Kentland Fire Department arrived on scene and attempted to take control of the structure fire. The remains of an individual were later located in the upstairs of the residence and is awaiting a DNA test for positive identification.
