WHAT:                      Pedestrian Fatal Traffic Crash

 

WHERE:                   Interstate 57 southbound milepost 323 (near Manteno), Kankakee County

 

WHEN:                      May 3, 2021 at approximately 8:40 p.m.

 

PEDESTRIAN:         Pending Investigation, 56-year-old male of Chicago, IL (Deceased)

 

VEHICLE:                Unit 2- 2021 Dodge Ram pulling a flatbed trailer

 

DRIVER:                   Unit 2- Pending Investigation, 41-year-old male of Blue Island, IL

 

PRELIMINARY:     A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: The driver of Unit 2 was traveling southbound on Interstate 57 in the right lane, when he came upon a disabled vehicle on the right shoulder.  Unit 2 was unable to move to the left lane due to a truck tractor semi-trailer traveling in the left lane.  Unit 2 struck the pedestrian standing in the right lane.

 

                                    The right lane of Interstate 57 and milepost 323 was shut down for approximately 4.5 hours for the crash investigation.

 

CHARGES:              Pending investigation.

 

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
