ISP INVESTIGATES TRAFFIC CRASH WITH INJURY IN IROQUOIS COUNTY

WHAT: One Unit Personal Injury Traffic Crash

 

WHERE: Interstate 57 northbound milepost 280 (near Onarga), Iroquois County

 

WHEN: April 3, 2021 at approximately 6:50 p.m.

 

VEHICLE: Unit 1- 1997 Green Dodge Caravan

 

DRIVER: Unit 1- Jose Martinez, 46-year old male of Chicago, IL (Transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries) PASSENGERS: Unit 1- Denise Hernandez, 40-year old female of Chicago, IL (Transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries) Unit 1- Child, 13-year old female of Chicago, IL (Transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries) Unit 1- Child, 3-year old female of Chicago, IL (Transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries) Unit 1- Infant, 8-month old male of Chicago, IL (Transported to a local area hospital with unknown injuries) PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling northbound on Interstate 57 near Onarga. Unit 1, for unknown reasons, lost control and veered off the roadway to the left. Unit 1 overturned multiple times before coming to rest in the southbound lanes. As a result of the crash, one child was fully ejected from the vehicle while another child was partially ejected from the vehicle. The infant remained secured inside the vehicle. -MORE-ADD ONE- D21 PI CRASH At approximately 6:58 p.m., all southbound lanes were shut down with traffic diverted off the Interstate to milepost 280 (Onarga) and back on to Interstate 57 from the southbound entrance ramp. All southbound lanes were reopened at approximately 12:09 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, and there is no further information at this time. CHARGES: Pending investigation. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
