On May 16th 2019, 07:35 AM Newton County 911 received a call regarding a two vehicle collision involving a Semi truck and farm tractor, north of CR 1150 N. on US 41 (1/4 mile south of the Kankakee River).
Preliminary investigation determined that a 2017 Mack Semi Truck, driven by a 35 year old male from Orland Park, IL, was traveling northbound US 41 when he failed to slow down or move to the left most lane to avoid a collision with a slow moving farm tractor causing Semi to strike a International Harvester Farmall Model 826 tractor also traveling Northbound US 41.
The Farmall tractor was driven by Daniel John Nelson a 51 year old male from Lake Village, IN.
Mr. Nelson was transported to Riverside Hospital do to his injuries resulting from being ejected from his tractor.
Newton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Newton County EMS, Lake Township FD, Indiana Conservation and Newton County EMA.
Crash remains under investigation.
