On Friday, 18th May, an unconfirmed hazardous material caused fish and wildlife death in parts of Coon Creek and Sugar Creek in Iroquois County. Fish, other water life, and other land creatures that drink or eat from these creeks have been found dead.
Local officials are working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Illinois Department of Natural Resources to determine the cause and severity of the issue.
People should take precautions when near these contaminated areas. Do not eat fish or wildlife that is contaminated. The best way to be sure is to fish somewhere else.
As more information develops, Iroquois County EMA will let the public know.
