Nora Harroun, 35, of Onarga passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on June 17, 1990 in Watseka, a daughter of Porfirio and Maria (Lopez) Garcia Sr.
Nora married Ben Harroun on October 19, 2019 in Gilman and he survives. Also surviving are her mother, Maria Garcia of Onarga; brother, Porfirio Garcia Jr. (April Herman) of Hoopeston; sister, Laura (Otilio) Aguilera of Buckley; father-in-law, Michael (Cathy) Harroun of Supply, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Will Harroun of Onarga; nieces, Brooklyn Harroun, Marissa Garcia, and Gabriela Aguilera; and nephew, Julian Aguilera.
Nora was preceded in death by her father, Porfirio Garcia Sr.; and her mother-in-law, Jeanne Harroun.
Nora was a member of Immaculate Conception/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gilman. Nora worked as an Administrative Assistant for Iroquois Memorial Hospital’s Gilman Clinic and at the Harvest Moon Twin Drive-in. She was active in the drive-in events with her husband and worked with the UDITOA (United Drive-in Theatre Owners Association to connect drive-in operators and the newsletter. Nora loved fiercely, with a dedication to her family and friends that surpassed regular friendship. She adored dogs and cats of every kind, spending time at home with her family of them, and took pride in rescuing animals when needed. She enjoyed time spent reading, walking her dogs Arya & Shadow, and going on dates and adventures with her husband Ben. Every trip became a priceless memory when you were with her. Nora loved to connect with people and truly became fast friends with those that attracted her spark. She took great pride in her family and friends, and especially loved spending time with them. Her other passions included riding her motorcycle and scooter, afternoons spent with her family in the yard and living each day with a passion for life that is hard to find. Her spirit touched and inspired those around her, and she loved her family above all else.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga. Funeral mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gilman with Fr. Santiago Corona officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to ICARe (Iroquois County Animal Rescue) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
