John D. Etchison, 78, of Onarga passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at his residence. He was born on July 15, 1946, son of John A. and Ethel (Cordell) Etchison, they preceded him in death.

 

John married D. Joann Dickson on May 25, 1968 on a rural farm in Catlin, Il. She survives.

 

Also surviving are one son, Jonathan (Holly) Etchison of St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter, Jessica Etchison of Paducah, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Madeline and Henry Strenge, Jonas and Jaysa Etchison; one brother, Don (Sheila) Etchison of Spring Hill, Florida.

 

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by one grandson John Andrew Etchison.

 

John was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He owned and operated Iroquois Real Estate and Insurance, which later became part of Iroquois Federal. John was an avid golfer and very proud of the two holes-in-one he had at Shewami and Shagbark golf courses. He had a passion for cars, especially Corvettes. He enjoyed drag racing and fixing up old cars. John loved living in the woods with his rescued black labs. He was proud of his Chickasaw heritage.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.

 

Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka is handling arrangements.
