Herbert W. Albers, 88 of Watseka

Herbert W. Albers, 88 of Watseka passed away on Friday February 14, 2025 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. He was born on October 6, 1936 in Detroit, MI the son of Fred H. and Anna S. (Martens) Albers. Herb married Judith Hiser in Papineau on July 26, 1958 and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters- Rhonda (Terry) Pence of Watseka, Laurie Albers of Aurora, IL and Kristin Lundquist of Watseka; two sons- Kurt Albers of Martinton and Erich (Sara) Albers of Waterloo, IL; four grandchildren- Anna (Zach) Virgin, Matthew (Jessica) Pence, William and Henry Albers; and three great grandchildren- Catey Virgin, Grace Virgin, and Jack Pence.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters- Anna Weidhuner and Edna Vadbunker.

 

Herb’s family moved from Detroit to the Martinton area in 1950 where he became a lifelong farmer in the Martinton and Watseka area. He served in the US Army from 1956-1958. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau, and Iroquois County Ramp Builders. Herb enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, woodworking, and watching western movies and the Illini. He enjoyed playing Sudoku puzzles. Herb had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday February 21, 2025 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with Pastor Jim Harkins officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Martinton.

 

Memorials may be made to Iroquois County Ramp Builders or the family wishes.
