Patricia Ann (Meents) Schoolman, 80, of Ashkum, IL, passed away early Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by family.
Pat was born on April 20, 1944, in Ashkum, IL, the eldest of five children of Melvin and Ruth (Merkle) Meents. She spent most of her life in Ashkum, where she built a home filled with love, warmth, and laughter. On May 25, 1968, she married the love of her life, Parr William Schoolman, and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Pat went to secretary school in Chicago in the 1960's and held many jobs. She dedicated over 20 years to Kankakee Community College before retiring, leaving behind fond memories and friendships. She was a passionate advocate for education and encouraged everyone who would listen to continue learning, whether they were just starting out, going back to school, or looking for a fresh start in life. She firmly believed that education could open doors and change lives.
Pat had a beautiful singing voice and a deep love for music.
She participated for many years in the Iroquois County Christmas Cantata, bringing joy to others through her performances. She was a talented seamstress and quilter, creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured by her family for generations. Her love for sports was unmatched-whether cheering on her favorite teams or supporting her children and grandchildren from the sidelines, she was their biggest fan.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Parr; her loving children: Parr Thomas Schoolman (Robin), Paige Schoolman (Michelle), Patrice Schoolman, and Abby Schoolman Lubich (Jason); and her seven adored grandchildren: Makenna (Tommy) DeVries, Myah, Parr Thomas II, Ryne, Alec, Kinsley, and Brynn. She was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild this spring.
Pat is also survived by her brothers, Tim (Pat) Meents and Tom Meents; her sister, Karleen Yohnka; her brother-in-law, Delmar Schoolman; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Maryann Westgor.
Patsy's kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
