Jimmie Laverne Schoon, 93, of Clifton

Jimmie Laverne Schoon, 93, of Clifton passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Gilman Healthcare Center. He was born on February 19, 1931 in Clifton, a son of William and Reika (Eilts) Schoon. He married Barbara Cooper Meier on April 24, 1954 in Danforth and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; four sisters; one son, Terry; one son-in-law, Matt Wulffe; and two grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney.

 

He is survived by one son, Steven (Rev. Christine) Schoon of Somonauk; one daughter, Diane Wulffe of Bradley; one brother, Kenneth Schoon of Ashkum; one sister, Darlene Papineau of Ashkum; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Schoon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he drove amphibious ducks, and was proud of his service to his country. He was a member of the Chebanse American Legion and was a past commander in Clifton. Jimmie worked at Armour’s in Kankakee for over 20 years, was the maintenance supervisor for the Clifton Village, and also helped local farmers. He loved to fish, garden, and spend time at his cabin in Wisconsin.

 

Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton and 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman with Rev. Dr. Pete Hinrich officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Clifton Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Central VFW.

 

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman or Uplifted Hospice.
