Eleanor "Ellie" Nolin, 94

Eleanor "Ellie" Nolin, 94, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at her home in rural Cissna Park. Ellie was born in Kankakee on March 20, 1930, the daughter of Paul and Bessie (Shreffler) Wingert. As a youth, she worked retail in Kankakee for JC Penney. The family then moved to Sheldon where she graduated High School.

 

Ellie married Paul Eugene "Gene" Nolin on March 30, 1952 at the Sheldon Evangelical United Brethren Church. They farmed in the Claytonville and Goodwine areas until Gene’s passing on July 7, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lucinda: granddaughter, Cassandra; and her brother, Wesley Wingert.

 

She is survived by her son-in-law, John (Suzanne) Bruns of Cissna Park; grandsons, Jason Bruns of Champaign and Justin Bruns of Plantation, Florida; step-granddaughters, Kelly Baker of Cissna Park and Jessica (Chad) Larimore of Bement; 5 great step-grandchildren; 4 great-great step-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Norma Wingert of Manchester, Indiana.

 

Gene and Ellie enjoyed extensive world wide traveling including Easter Island, Galapagos Islands, China and South America and spent many winters in Arizona. Throughout the years, she served as an election judge, volunteered for the Red Cross and Heart Association and assisted with the BloodMobile.

 

Ellie enjoyed playing cards, gardening and putting together puzzles. She was a member of the Goodwine and then Cissna Park Methodist Church.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Cissna Park United Methodist Church with funeral services to follow at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ashley Clifton officiating. Burial will be in the Amity Cemetery near Goodwine.

 

Arrangements are by the Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park.
