Bruce D. Gerhart Sr., 87, of Piper City passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at OSF St James Hospital in Pontiac. He was born on April 12, 1937 in Quakertown, PA, a son of Arthur I. and Helen M. (Souder) Gerhart Sr. Bruce married Dorothy M. Chase in Gilman on March 17, 1959 and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2021.
Survivors include his children, Bruce Gerhart Jr. of Kankakee, Alan (Jenny Gould) Gerhart of Tolono, Vicki (Phillip) Orr of Fairbury and Clay Gerhart of Piper City; four sisters, Lorraine Miller of PA, Ann (Glen) McComber of NC, Bette Benner of Rotonda, FL and Linda Clancey of SC; one brother, Ralph Gerhart of NC; eight grandchildren, Margaret Hall, Bryan (Kasey) Gerhart, Brigett (Matthew) Hahn, Samantha Orr, Christopher (Kimberly) Gerhart, Megan (Tyler) Gilmore, Jordan (Jonathon) Wilson-Holliman and Sydney Orr (Richie Ingram); six great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Katherine, Charlotte, Braylee, Savannah and Caroline.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arthur Gerhart Jr.; one son, Robert Chase; and one daughter-in-law, Suzie McConnell.
Bruce was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 10, 2024 one hour prior to the 12:00 noon memorial service at the Knapp-Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman with Rev. Dr. Pete Hinrich officiating.
Burial will be in Wenger Cemetery in Gilman.
