Daniel “Danny” Ponton, 75, of Ashkum passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023 at his home. He was born July 4, 1947 in Kankakee, the son of Burnal J. and Oleida M. (Rabideau) Ponton. He married Jeanette Jensen on January 22, 1972 in Clifton and she preceded him in death on November 18, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronnie Ponton; and one daughter, Julie Ponton.

He later married Kim Foster on October 19, 2001 in Las Vegas, NV and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Jessica Pangle of Bourbonnais; one son, Jason (Wendy Martinez) Ponton of Bradley; two step-children, Chad Kohler of Ashkum and Heather (Tim) Jemar of Ashkum; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Jean Phelps of Ashkum; and one brother, Steve (Joanie) Ponton of Ashkum.

Danny worked many years for Meier Oil Co. and was also a volunteer fireman in Ashkum for many years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Ashkum American Legion. Danny enjoyed woodworking and puttering around the house.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Rev. Dan Shipton will officiate. Burial will follow at the Ashkum Catholic Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Central VFW Post #2131.

Memorials may be made to the Ashkum Fire Dept. or Ashkum American Legion.
