Deborah L. Quick, 73, of Watseka passed away on February 2, 2023 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL. She was born on August 6, 1949 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Eugene and Elizabeth Clark. She married Stephen Quick on April 18, 1970 in Marshall, IL.
Deborah is survived by her husband Steve of Watseka, and her children Joshua and Roselene Quick of Robinson, IL, Jacob and Shawna Quick of Watseka, and Megan and Ryan Baxter of Bloomington, IL; her grandchildren Jessica and Jacob Blankenbeker of Robinson, Ian Quick and Emma Goodman of Webster, TX, Samuel Quick of Terre Haute, IN, Joseph Quick of Robinson, Aden and Abby Quick of Watseka, Caleb and Joshua Baxter of Bloomington, and her great-grandson Leo Blankenbeker of Robinson. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Penny and Ken Cannady, Mindy and Bryan Harper, and Tammy and Bill Fraker all of Marshall as well as her sister-in-law Diane Clark, sisters-in-law Marilyn and Bob Smitley of Marshall and Phyllis Higginbotham of Bristow, VA and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Mark Clark, brother-in-law Fenton Quick and his wife Judy, and brother-in-law Ron Higginbotham.
Debbe and Steve grew up just blocks from each other in their hometown of Marshall, IL. Following her graduation from Marshall High School in 1967, Debbe attended college at Southern Illinois University where she trained as a laboratory technician and worked at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. In 1971 they moved to Watseka where Debbe worked at Iroquois Memorial Hospital until the birth of her oldest son. She held many different jobs during her life, including selling wicker, sewing vinyl pouches for Stam Manufacturing, and working at Dr. Curry’s office. Her longest career, which took her into her retirement, was painting and wallpapering for numerous area clients. She was also active in the community. She was a Unit 9 school board member for 8 years and really enjoyed the relationships built through that experience. She was also a member of St. Edmund’s Catholic Church since 1971 and decorated the church for many years at Christmas.
Deborah, also known as Debbie, Debbe, Deb, Cobweb, Mom, Grammie, Gram, and even Graham Cracker, was a wonderful and talented creator of beauty. She created a stunning flower garden that bloomed nearly year-round and was featured twice in the community garden walk. She made many woodworking projects completely from scratch with her husband, was famous for her ice cream dessert, and always had an immaculately decorated house no matter what the season. Easter egg hunts were for all ages and usually involved tree-climbing and hiking through the woods at Jake’s house. Her summers were often spent with her constantly-visiting grandkids riding bikes, and taking walks with her neighborhood friends. A clown costume she made for her son Josh’s Halloween costume was worn by all her grandchildren, most of her nieces and nephews, and this year by her great-grandson, Leo. Christmas was mandatory at her house, and always included good food, holiday music, Yahtzee!, and Santas in every nook and cranny.
A time of visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00PM on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Monday, February 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall. Donations may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice, St. Edmund’s Catholic Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association. The family gives special thanks to Tracy and Lisa from hospice, Tina, Helen, Jody, Mary, Judy, and Jeff for all their care.
