Barbara Jane Schoon, 90, of Gilman and formerly of Clifton

Barbara Jane Schoon, 90, of Gilman and formerly of Clifton, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Gilman Nursing Home in Gilman. She was born on May 20, 1932 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Arthur and Maxine (Ohrt) Cooper. Barb married Jimmie L. Schoon on April 24, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Danforth.

Surviving are her husband of over sixty years, Jimmie Schoon of Clifton; one son, Steven (Rev. Christine) Schoon of Somonauk; one daughter, Diane Wulffe of Bradley; her brother, Chuck Cooper of Kankakee; seven grandchildren, Thomas (Michelle) Wulffe, Timothy (Barb) Wulffe, Tyler Wulffe, Alison (Jonathon) Schoon-Owens, Maykayla (Ryan Schankles) Schoon, Andrea (Jesus) Marquez, Kendra (Dharam) Schoon; twelve great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in passing by her parents; foster parents; her brothers, Bud and Dick; her sister, Sis; her foster brother, Kenneth Meier; one son, Terry; two grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany; and most recently her son in law, Matthew Wulffe.

Mrs. Schoon’s career outside of being a wife and mother began as a substitute cook for Central Unit #4. She then worked at Central High School in the kitchen. Eventually Barb became the Food Service Director for Central Schools until her retirement.

Barb enjoyed being in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, where she and Jimmie had a summer home. They would fish, enjoyed being on the lake together, and spending time on their porch.
Mrs. Schoon was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilman, Clifton Legion Auxiliary, and St. John’s Quilters.

Barb loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed crocheting, making afghans for many family members, and baking chocolate chip cookies.

Funeral services will at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilman. Rev. Pete Hinrich will officiate. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery in Clifton.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at church on Wednesday, from 9:00-11:00 am.

Arrangements are being handled by Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
