Dorathy Mae Brown, 83, of Gilman

Dorathy Mae Brown, 83, of Gilman passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. She was born on March 3, 1939 in Gilman, a daughter of Albert D. and Myrtle (Gerard) Schroeder. Dorathy married Charles W. Brown in Gilman on October 29, 1960 and he preceded her in death on September 18, 2007.

She is survived by her five children, Addison Brown of Gilman, Becky (Richard) Noble of Boswell, Indiana, Charles Brown of Gilman, Darrell Brown of Gilman, and Elmer (Gina) Brown of Asheville, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Stephanie Gossett and Derrick Gossett; one great-granddaughter, Viola Jasper; one brother, Dale (Shirley) Schroeder; six sisters, Margaret Sprehe of Watseka, Mary (Bill) Perry of Trimble, Tennessee, Janet Frye of Watseka, Helen (Curtis) Sorenson of Culpepper, Virginia, Marilyn Smith of Watseka, and Sandra (Erwin) Strough of Gilman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward “Ollie” Schroeder.

Dorathy was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman. She delivered newspapers for over 40 years for many papers including Kankakee Daily Journal, Bloomington Pantagraph, Watseka Times Republic, Chicago Sun Times, and Chicago Tribune.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Knapp-Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman with the funeral service beginning at 11:15 a.m. with Rev. Pete Hinrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilman Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Gilman Fire Department, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman, or to the Donor’s Choice.
