Harold “Harry” Sykes, 70, of Onarga passed away on October 24, 2022 at his residence. He was born on August 21, 1952 in Richlands, Virginia, a son of Woodrow and Stella Mae (Lester) Sykes. Harry married Kathy Price on September 23, 1979 in Mahomet and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Pearl (Rick) Althoff of Dublin, Ohio; one son, Matthew Sykes of Arden, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Alexandra and Emilia Althoff of Dublin, Ohio; two sisters, Lois (B.J.) Fuller of Honaker, Virginia and Loretta “Tina” (Harold) Shortt of Honaker, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Lee Price of Onarga; one sister-in-law, Karen (Richard) Milburn of Loda; and several nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Kermit, Clyde, Ed Russ, Harlin “Chubby”, and Darrell “Bubby”.

Harry retired from the Army National Guard and the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He served in the military during the Vietnam Era. Harry loved Model A cars, hunting, playing guitar, and working in his yard. He especially loved watching his kids in sports and spending time with his granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga with Pastor Jim Harkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Onarga Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites by the Onarga American Legion Post 551.
