Marvin David Kuipers, 98, of Danforth

Marvin David Kuipers, 98, of Danforth passed away on October 16, 2022 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth. He was born on February 26, 1924, west of Danforth, the son of Joe E. and Ella (Hemp) Kuipers. He married BarBara J. Quick on January 27, 1951 and she preceded him in death on November 28, 2016.

Survivors include, sister, Devanna Hurt of Gilman; sister, Caroline Patterson of California; daughter, JoEllyn Sue (Randall) Verkler of Cissna Park; son, David Quin (Cindy) Kuipers of Danforth; grandchildren, Nicole (Jared) Sarver of Texas, Brian (Kristen) Turpen of Texas, Lindsey (Kaleb) Faulk of Texas, Levi Kuipers of Danforth, Chad (Ashleigh) Verkler of Cissna Park; and great grandchildren, Madison Wilson, McKenzie Wilson, Kamden Sarver, Kendell Sarver, Aleecia Faulk, Benjamin, Grace Faulk, Rees Turpen, Reagan Turpen, Malaki, Lilyana, and Lydia Verkler.

In addition to his wife, Marvin was preceded in passing by his parents; step-mother, Hannah Cordes Kuipers; an infant sister; brothers, Merrill of Danforth, Wilbur of California, and Clarence of Onarga; and son in law, Michael Turpen.

Marvin attended the Kerns Grade School where he graduated 8th grade. He then began farming with his father. He joined the army where he was stationed in the Philippines and was later transferred to Korea as a combat engineer for over a year. He was honorably discharged as a Technician Corporal. Marvin began farming northwest of Danforth for a couple years. After marrying BarBara, they moved to the farm west of Danforth where he was born and continued farming there.

Mr. Kuipers was a director of the Danforth-Gilman Grain Elevator for twenty-seven years, served on the Advisory Committee of the Iroquois West School District for three years, and was a member of the American Legion 2131 in Clifton.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Zion United Church of Christ in Gilman. Rev. Dr. Carol Lange will officiate. Burial will follow in Danforth Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at church on Friday, from 11:00-12:00.
