Russell L. Hull, 82, of Ashkum passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee. He was born on September 14, 1940 in Estherville, Iowa, a son of Myron L. and Alice G. (Murphy) Hull. Russell married Ruth M. Wells on November 17, 1973 and she survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Beth (Todd) Evers of Fort Worth, Texas; one son, Tom (Kristina) Hull of Danforth; five grandchildren, Isaac Evers, Eli Evers, Charlotte Evers, Lauren Hull, and Cord Hull; siblings, Donna Schmitz, Mary Sides, Patricia (Randy) Storm, Diane (Roger) Kimmel, Lori Nichols, Barb (Tom) Peters, Milton (Judy) Hull; sisters-in-law, Barb Hull and Sherry Hull; and many nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers; Robert Hull, Myron “Dick” Hull, and Donald Hull; and three brothers-in-law, Frank Schmitz, Orville Sides, and John Nichols.

Russell was a member of the Ashkum United Methodist Church where he was very active and held various positions including serving as a church board member. Russell was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served from September of 1957 to September of 1963. He attended Clifton Central High School. Russell was a village of Ashkum board member for 22 years and served on the Planning and Zoning Board. He had been a Commodore at the Aroma Park Boat Club. Russell retired from Cherry Burrell. He was the owner and operator of Russ’s Welding where he loved to spend time in the shop. He was an avid sportsman, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandkids and family.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton with his daughter, Rev. Beth Evers and Rev. Mark Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashkum Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ashkum United Methodist Church or Donor’s Choice.
