William (Bill) F. Reed of Eustis, Florida

William (Bill) F. Reed of Eustis, Florida, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at his home following a short illness.

Bill was born on November 6, 1935 in Xenia, Illinois, the son of Ruth (Fatheree) and James R. Reed.
Bill married Edith (Trudie) Lauterbach of Ashkum, Illinois on November 6, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashkum, Illinois.

Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, VFW and a 60-year member of The Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, boat rides, gardening at his Florida farm, antique collecting, antique cars and spending time with his family and friends, as well as being an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Bill also served in the United States Army, 13th Infantry.

After several years at Missouri Paint & Varnish, Bill established Coatings Application & Waterproofing, (CAW), in 1967 and owned that business until he retired in July, 2015.

Bill dedicated his life to his work, he traveled endlessly and worked tirelessly to build his company and provide the best quality of workmanship possible. Bill was highly respected by business professionals in the industry throughout the world, as well as by his employees and their families. Bill’s success was made possible by the love and support of his wife Trudie, who worked with him side-by-side, only to develop her own company, FMEC, to support the supply side of CAW.

Surviving are one brother-in-law, Wilbur Lauterbach, nieces; Meloney (James) Reed, Shirley Roach, Wanda Jensen, Virginia Wasmer, Laurie (Larry) Wilken, and nephews; Michael Thomas, Rick (Linda) Thomas, Jim (Shari) Reed, Edward (Lori) Lauterbach, Tim (Lori) Lauterbach, Glenn (Alice) Saathoff, Jerry (Monica) Moore, and Jim Anderson, along with several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Trudie, brother James R. Reed, sister Wanda Thomas, brothers-in-law Jack Thomas, John Lauterbach, Clyde Lauterbach, Arthur Anderson, Elmer Saathoff, Harold Moore and sisters-in-law Betty Reed, Marilyn Lauterbach, Carol Lauterbach, Mardella Anderson, Margaret Lauterbach, Hazel Moore, and Esther Saathoff. Also preceding him in death were nieces, Brenda Johnson, June Roberts and nephews Danny Moore and Elmer Saathoff.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Additional visitation will be on Monday, October 10, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with funeral services at Knapp Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Ashkum Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Ashkum Coliseum immediately following the graveside service.
