Raymond B. Hummel, 88, of Gilman and formerly of Piper City

Raymond B. Hummel, 88, of Gilman and formerly of Piper City passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Heritage Health in Normal, IL.

Raymond was born on February 23, 1934 in Piper City, the son of Earl and Leah (Kurtenbach) Hummel and they preceded him in death along with two brothers, Durwood and Jimmy; two sisters, Elvera Eppelheimer and Darlene Schall; and one granddaughter.

He married Darlene D. Strough on October 12, 1963 in Piper City and she survives in Gilman. He is also survived by three children, Lori (John) Ried of Normal, Bob Hummel of Champaign, and Karen (Zach) Moore of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Raymond worked for forty-two years at FS & Growmark Seed Division in Piper City. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Illinois Crop Improvement Board of Urbana. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Piper City where he served on the church council for many years. Raymond enjoyed wintering in Naples, FL, loved wood working, and playing euchre.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at St. Peter Catholic Parish Hall in Piper City with a Rosary Service at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a visitation prior to the Funeral Mass on Thursday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Piper City. Fr. Marek Herbut will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Piper City.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church in Piper City, American Diabetes Association, or donor’s choice.
