Marjorie Emily Kraay 97, of Watseka

Marjorie Emily Kraay 97, of Watseka IL, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday March 19, 2022 at Southgate Nursing home in Metropolis IL where she had been a patient for the past year.

Mrs. Kraay was born August 2nd 1924. Her parents were John and Elizabeth Kuipers who adopted her at birth and provided her with a loving home. She attended grade school in a one room school in Danforth, IL and later graduated from Gilman High School.

She married John O. Kraay in 1942 who preceded her in death May 8th, 2000. They were married for 57 years. Marjorie was a homemaker and farm wife on their family farm north of Danforth until their retirement when they moved to Watseka in 1976 and built their new retirement home.

She had 3 sons, Wesley (deceased), James (Pat) of Hardin Ky, and Paul (Stacy) of Cisne IL; 6 grandchildren, Candace (David) Suprenant, Mike (Shannon) Kraay, Terry (Wendy) Kraay, Rick (Luann) Kraay, Sheila Kraay Minard, Leanne (Bill) Robinson, Chris (DeAnna) Kraay, John Kraay, and Vickie Kraay; 19 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her son Wesley, a daughter in-law Shirley, her grandson John, and her granddaughter Vickie Kraay.

Mrs. Kraay enjoyed working in her flower beds, playing euchre and playing her piano and keyboard. Her absolute favorite pastime was visiting, family, friends, neighbors, or complete strangers; it made no difference. She never met a stranger. She was a former member of the Danforth Dutch Reformed Church and a current member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka.

Pastor Aaron Uphoff will be conducting graveside services on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka, IL at 11:00 AM. A luncheon at Calvary Lutheran Church will follow the service.

The family requests no donations or memorials.
