Mary Ruth Moore, 73, of rural Rossville

Mary Ruth Moore, 73, of rural Rossville, IL, passed away late Wednesday August 25, 2021, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL.  She was born November 11, 1947, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Emil and Margaret (White) Brain.  She married Lester C. Moore on March 30, 1969, at the Alvin Christian Church.  He survives in rural Rossville, IL. 

She is also survived by one daughter, Kristie Moore of Rossville, IL; one son, Scott (Carol) Moore of Oakwood, IL; two grandchildren, Bryce Moore and Madyson Moore of Oakwood, IL; two sisters, Linda Day of Danville, IL and Sara (Rick) Andrews of Alvin, IL; one sister-in-law, Nancy Brain of Danville, IL; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Brain; brother-in-law, Melvin Day; nephew, Andrew Juvinall; and father-in-law and mother-in-law; Calvin and Zeda Moore. 

Mary was a homemaker and farmwife who loved caring for her family.  She also worked at the Alvin Post Office and other area post offices for 25 years as a postmaster relief.  She was a member of the Alvin Christian Church where she was very active serving as a Sunday school teacher, craft director at Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the Alvin Christian Church Ladies Circle.  Mary also served as a Gundy Cemetery Association Trustee and was a former South Ross Township Deputy Assessor for 13 years.  She was a wonderful caregiver who spent time visiting people in nursing homes and preparing many home-cooked meals not only for her family but for those who were sick and shut-in.  She also enjoyed doing a card ministry sending birthday, get well, and sympathy cards to others.  Her hobbies included making crafts, sewing, gardening, tending to her many flower beds, and caring for her cats and dogs.  Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. 

A visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday August 31, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday September 1, 2021, at the funeral home with Jason Schimke officiating.  Burial will follow in Gundy Cemetery.
