Marvin D. Hamilton, 86, of Gilman

Marvin D. Hamilton, 86, of Gilman passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born August 24, 1932 in Strasburg, IL (Prairie Twp.), the son of Louis and Ella Bronson Hamilton. They preceded him in death in addition to three brothers, Everett, Kenneth and Donald; and one sister, Thelma McArthur.

He married Mary Pinnell on August 10, 1958 in Kansas, IL and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Tim (Tami) Hamilton of Onarga; one daughter, Amy (Kent) Luebchow of Buckley; two brothers, Earl (June) Hamilton of Champaign and Dean (Artie) Hamilton of Moweaqua; ten grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Marvin attended and graduated from EIU where he played football for two years. He taught first in Hindsboro, then in Heyworth, and finally in Gilman and Iroquois West High Schools. He coached basketball, football, cross country and track in high school. Marvin was a member of Life Church in Gilman and Gilman Lions Club. He served in the Coast Guard and was active in the Civil Defense in Gilman.

He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He loved woodworking, camping, and enjoyed spending time with his family. Marvin never knew a stranger. He was a godly man and loved his Lord and his family with all his heart.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Life Church in Gilman. Rev. James Harkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Gilman Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Gilman American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Life Church in Gilman and also 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Gilman Food Pantry, Luther Place in Danforth or family’s wishes.
