Gene "Stringbean" Quakenbush, 81, of Watseka

Gene "Stringbean" Quakenbush, 81, of Watseka, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018.

He was born on September 19, 1936 in Crescent Township,IL, the son of Earl Quakenbush and Lena (Hurling) Quakenbush.

Gene married Nancy Ailey on January 27, 1956 in Milford. Gene was a member of the Watseka United Methodist Church, Odd Fellows of Watseka, a Lay Speaker for Woodland Church, and a recipient of an award for Norman Rockwell School of Art.

He worked at TRW, UARCO, Louis Melind in Onarga, and Chicago Steel Tape. He enjoyed oil painting, woodworking, fishing, and hunting.

Surviving Mr. Quakenbush is his wife, Nancy Quakenbush of Watseka; daughters, Vicky (Janice) Quakenbush of Kankakee, and Cindy (Dennis) Young of Cissna Park; sister-in-laws, Mary Quakenbush of Appleton, WI, and Diane Quakenbush of Mt. Juliet, TN; sister, Karen Bolen of Cissna Park; grandchildren, Mike (Kandace Arseneau) Rogers, Jacob (Michaela McKenna) Young, Jessica (James) Doudera; Joshua (Amaria) Young, Jeremy (Sherri) Young, and Rachel Wright; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LaMar and Jim; and one sister, Barbara.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 4-7pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 11:00 am, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. A one hour visitation will take place prior to services. Pastor Bob Sabo will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Body Cemetery in Woodland, IL.

Memorials in Mr. Quakenbush's name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
