Dorothy (Hammond) Johnson, 96, has passed to be with her heavenly Father. She was blessed with good health until six weeks ago when she became seriously ill. She was born in June of 1922 at home near Pittwood. She attended Schoon, Belmont and County Farm Schools. She walked to school with her younger brother, Bernard (BR). Dorothy enjoyed helping her father, Ray, on the farm and her mother, Orpha (Tipton), with household chores. While working at the county farm, she met Albert Johnson and they were happily united in marriage in 1938 at the Kentland Methodist Parsonage. In 1940 their daughter, Dorothy Lou “Dottie”, was born. Dorothy’s father, Ray, passed in 1942. In 1946 their daughter, Diane, was born and in 1961 their granddaughter, Faye “Faith”.

Dorothy was a lifetime resident and retired farmer. She truly enjoyed their Guernsey dairy cattle and running the combine. Dorothy’s mother, Orpha, passed in 1967 and her brother, BR, in 1972. Dorothy enjoyed helping with dinners at the Woodland Church and collecting for the American Cancer Society.

She was blessed with her great-grandchildren, Alcy in 1984 and Charles in 1990. Albert and Dorothy retired from farming in 1985 and moved to Watseka. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Dorothy lost her daughter, Dottie, in 1998 and her beloved husband, Albert, in 2005. In 2016 Dorothy became a great-great-grandmother celebrating the birth of Lucian.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Diane; granddaughter, Faith; great-grandchildren, Alcy and Charles; and great-great-grandson, Lucian.

Private family services will be held at Prairie Dell Cemetery in Iroquois.
