Cissna Park 10, Watseka 0 - Mario Renteria did a little bit of everything for the Timberwolves on Thursday as he threw six innings of five-hit, shutout ball and went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs in his team's 10-0 conference win over the Warriors. The Timberwolves also got multi-hit games from Bailey Sluis, Tenner Benoit, Rudy King and Will Petry, while Jaden Downs and Reese Inman recorded hits for watseka.

PBL 8, Iroquois West 0 - Kaleb Pfeifer had a pair of hits in three at-bats Thursday for the Raiders, which matched the rest of the lineup's output as the raiders drop an svc match-up to pbl 8-0. Tibaldo Alvarez and Sean Rogers also had a hit each for the Raiders.

Central 17, South Newton 7 (five innings) - Austin Boudreau hit a pair of homers, scored three times and drove in four runs Thursday, as the Comets made light work of their Sangamon Valley Conference foe south newton 17-7. Canyon Burrow, Tyler Pelehowski and Trevor Meier had three hits apiece, while Meyer drove in four runs and Burrow drove in three. Pelehowski and Matt Balthazor joined Boudreau with three runs each. Jay Lemenager went the distance on the mound for the Comets, allowing seven runs (four earned) on four hits, four walks and 11 strikeouts. nick babcock went 2-3 for the rebels with a pair of doubles and two rbi's. carson anderson also went 2-3 with an rbi. central improves to 12-6 on year and 10-2 in the svc while south newton drops to 7-7 and 7-6 in the svc.

Central 13, South Newton 12 - The Comets rallied back from an 8-0 third-inning deficit in dramatic fashion, when Gabriella Griffith's bases-loaded walk scored Kaylie Warpet. The Comets put up six runs in the fourth, and then seven more in the final three innings, including three in the bottom of the seventh, an inning in which they started off down 12-10. Eight of the Comets' nine starters scored and/or drove in a run. Kaylee Ketcherside scored three times, while four other Comets scored twice. Griffith drove in three runs for the Comets, who got two-RBI games from three other players as well. south newton's shanelle embry went 4 for 5 with 2 rbi's, elizabeth garing was 5 for 5 with two runs scored and hayley warren was 2 for 5 with 4 rbi's as the lady rebels fall to 10-5 on the year. comets improve to 8-11.

Bismarck-Henning 5, Milford 3 - Five Milford errors ended up proving costly, as the Bearcats dropped a tight one despite a strong pitching performance from Britney Bailey. Bailey allowed two earned runs on nine hits and three walks, one less earned run than BH starter Laynee Dickison allowed. Kaylee Warren had a solo homer for the Bearcats, who also got a two-run double from Maya McEwen. Jordan Fritch led the Bearcats with two hits.

PBL Invitational - Watseka finished one point away from a win at the PBL, as its 91.00 points was just behind the host school. Keegan Zack won three different events, winning the triple jump (40'07.25"), 100M dash (11.79 s) and 200M dash (23.25 s). Rusty Kuhlman took first place in both the shot put (46'03.50") and discus (128'07.00"), while the Warriors' 800M relay team of Lucas Lee, Drew Hagen, Cameron Wonch and Darrell Collins took second with a time of 1:36.24.

CHICAGO -- Trayce Thompson homered with two out in the ninth, and the White Sox stopped a four-game slide with a 6-5 win over the twins. Thompson connected against former White Sox reliever Addison Reed (0-2), driving a 3-1 pitch 403 feet to left. It was Thompson's third homer in 43 at-bats this season and third game-ending shot of his career. Chicago trailed 5-1 in the fourth inning. Nate Jones (2-0) got the win, retiring his only batter. SEATTLE (AP) - Ichiro Suzuki was released Thursday by the Seattle Mariners and is shifting into a front office role with the team, although he is not completely shutting the door on playing again. The Mariners announced that Suzuki was becoming a special assistant to the chairman effective immediately. The team said Suzuki will have an active presence with the team and assist with outfield play, base running and hitting. But nowhere in the announcement do they say the 44-year-old is retiring, although Suzuki is precluded from returning to the active roster in 2018.


Albert Pujols has 2,999 hits as Los Angeles opens a series at Seattle. Pujols got three shots at 3,000 after reaching striking distance with a two-run double in the second inning, but he couldn't get the hit before the Angels began a five-game road trip. He'll try to reach 3,000 against Seattle's Mike Leake.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) -- Jason Witten is retiring after 15 years with the Dallas Cowboys, choosing the TV booth just as friend and longtime teammate Tony Romo did a year ago. Witten says the ''time has come to pass the torch.'' Just days from turning 36, Witten walks away as the leader in games, catches and yards receiving for a franchise with five Super Bowl wins, but none since the 1995 season. He and Tony Gonzalez are the only tight ends in NFL history with at least 1,000 catches and 10,000 yards.
